WhatsApp has introduced a number of new privacy features to make it easier to control what you share.
There are three useful tools. Two of them are currently released and one is still in testing and will be released soon.
All functions have roughly the same purpose. That means giving you a better way to determine who can see your actions.

Disappearing Messages Really Disappear
For a while, WhatsApp gave you the option to set messages to 'show only once'. The tool aims to make it harder for people to save sent photos and make them more temporary.

But so far it's been all or nothing. WhatsApp now lets you choose who can see your online status and who can't.
Quietly leave a group
There has never been a way to quietly leave a group. I had to leave the group dramatically, leaving a message stating that I had left the group. in a group. It might come in handy when you're in an argument, but it's a pain if you just want to get out.
(Previously, the best option was to mute the conversation and then archive it. This has almost the same effect as leaving, but without the notification.)
