UFC accused of playing 'worst card ever' in Nate Diaz's final fight

UFC fans believe the promotion is deliberately using the "worst card ever" for Nate Diaz's final bout.

Diaz will be expiring next month with undefeated welterweight contender Kamzat Chimayev in his main event at UFC 279 on September 10th. Chimayev has won all five of his UFC appearances since signing for promotion two years before him.

He's less than a month away from the

card, and a co-main event has yet to be announced. Aside from the main event between Diaz and Chimayev, there are no clear contenders on the card. Given the quality of the event, many fans have speculated that the promotion may have deliberately put together a weak card, given that this fight is the last of Diaz's promotion.

"Diaz has pay-per-view points and has not re-signed. UFC together is the worst card ever, so Diaz will shoot off his 'draw power' as little as possible before the boxing match takes place," wrote one user. "They are trying to weaken Diaz as much as possible by giving him inferior cards," he added.

For months, Diaz struggled to book fights despite rumors of a match against Dustin Poirier, Vicente Luque and Tony Ferguson. He eventually settled on Chimaev as his Swan Song opponent, and Chechens promised the fight would be the "funeral" of Diaz's UFC career, with Chimaev being a big favorite heading into the fight and some Fans think he has no chance for Diaz to match him.

Predictable outcome. It's a very weak card for the price. UFC boss White defends the quality of the card and claims the promotion is still working to add a few more fights to the event.

"We're working on it today. We're going to throw a few more fights [on the card], not just one. It's going to be a good card," White told reporters. The UFC boss also defended the decision to pit Diaz against the undefeated Chimayev, saying: You never know what will happen in this sport. Anything is possible.
