Thick fog engulfs huge swathes of UK as Met Office issues warning

Drivers have been warned of heavy fog and difficult driving conditions on roads this morning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning, in place until 11am, for parts of England, Wales and Scotland.

A blanket of fog rolled in overnight after temperatures drastically dropped.

In some areas, such as Worcestershire, gritters have been deployed on ‘sub-zero road temperatures’.

This morning’s fog is ‘likely to cause some travel delays this morning’, forecasters have warned.

It will then ‘linger’ through much of the day.

The Met Office warned of: ‘Slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible

‘There is a chance of delays or cancellations to flights.’

The Met Office yesterday sounded weather alarm bells for December, threatening sub-zero temperatures across the country.

Brits are likely to see the dreaded ‘Beast from the East wake up and stretch its claws’ in the run-up to Christmas.

High pressure over Europe is expected to move towards Britain around the start of the month, pulling winds in from the east.

Jim Dale, founder and meteorological consultant at British Weather Services, told Metro.co.uk it is ‘becoming more likely we are going to see snow events’.

He added: ‘By December 12, we will start to see sub-zero temperatures during the day across the country.

‘Now, we are starting to see the Beast from the East. and its claws will show. It has woken up. It has started to stretch its claws in our direction.

‘That will almost certainly mean sub-zero temperatures, including in London.’
