On-loan St Mirren striker says Airdrie must do better as they prepare for vital clash

On-loan St Mirren striker Lewis Jamieson admits Airdrie could be doing better as they head into a vital League One clash at home to Queen of the South tomorrow afternoon.

The Diamonds go into the New Broomfield clash on the back of three away defeats against Montrose and Kelty Hearts in the league and Alloa in the SPFL Trust Trophy.

Jamieson admits he could help out in attack more than he has, adding to the two he has scored this season.

Airdrie lost 4-2 at Montrose on Tuesday, with Calum Gallagher and Jamieson cancelling out early strikes by Lewis Milne and Adam Mackinnon, but Craig Johnston added two late linchers to keep the points at Links Park.

Jameson, 20, is looking for a return to form against Queen of the South, having beat Clyde 5-0 only a few weeks ago.

He told the club's website: "Results haven't sometimes gone our way, but performances are there or thereabouts when we want them to be.

"As we say in the changing room, we can always go one step further.

"All round we could be doing better. I had a lot more chances than just that one [at Montrose]. Sometimes they go in, sometimes they don't.

"From a personal point of view, I'm taking that into training, having standards and making sure I put everything in the back of the net - and taking that into Saturday's game."

Airdrie have dropped down to fourth in League One, while Queens sit three places and five points below, with Jamieson keen to make up some ground.

He said: "It's my aim every game to make sure I contribute to us getting the three points on a Saturday.

"Hopefully we can come here on Saturday, put on a good performance and get the three points."
