Mrs Hinch fans share £2 hack for removing 'hard' air fryer grease that 'works every time'

Air fryers have surged in popularity recently, selling out as soon as they come in stock, with people swapping out using their traditional ovens in a bid to save money.

When cooking in smaller quantities, air fryers can be really cost-effective, and the appliance is also a healthier alternative as it uses less oil.

They are small and energy efficient – but many people struggle to clean them because of their awkward size and layout.

The food goes into a perforated basket, which can be tricky to clean once it's coated in hard grease and oil.

Luckily, fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch, real name Sophie Hinchliffe, have shared the perfect solution to cleaning an air fryer – and it's so simple and cheap.

In a Facebook group where fans of Mrs Hinch share their own cleaning hacks, one social media user asked: "I picked up an air fryer from Facebook but I need to clean it.

"I've tried Pink Stuff and washing up liquid. Any other tips? It's pretty hard on there."

The Facebook user received lots of suggestions, but by far the most popular answer was using two items most people already have in their home - bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice.

One person suggested: "Leave it to soak in bicarbonate of soda, lemon juice and hot water, you might need to do it a couple of times but I swear by this method!"

Another agreed: "Lemon and bicarbonate of soda made into a paste and put on for an hour before washing off."

A third added: "Lemon and bicarbonate of soda made into a paste and put on for an hour before washing off."

Someone else said: "I use baking soda and a lemon plus hot water. It works every time."

That means you don't have to go to the shop and buy expensive cleaning products.

If you don't already have them, lemons can be bought for around 30p each (from Tesco ) while a 500g box of bicarbonate of soda will cost you £1.70 from Wilko.

If that doesn't work for you, the savvy cleaners also offered other tips, including using Fairy Liquid, Elbow Grease Spray and a dishwasher tablet.

One Facebook user suggested putting a bit of Fairy Liquid and water into the air fryer and turning it on. She added: "That's how I clean my George Foreman. Once it's heated up normally, it just wipes off."

Mrs Hinch herself has previously shared how she keeps her air fryer sparkly clean.

In an Instagram video, she revealed how the air fryer had "changed her life" and revealed she uses baking liner each time she cooks, which cost just 16p each.

The cleaning guru added that she had purchased 40 baking liners for £6.40 on Amazon.
