Martin Lewis explains how to make the most of your heating this winter

Martin Lewis has shed light on how long you should be keeping your heating on this winter.

Millions of Brits have radiators turned down low, or off completely, to help cope with the ongoing cost of living crisis.

This has led to issues of mould and damp in some households which never experienced the problem before.

In a typical household, over half of the fuel bills are spent on heating and hot water.

Money saving expert Martin Lewis has now given his advice on how best to use your heating sparingly – but have it go a long way.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, he explained the biggest ‘myth’ that families tend to fall for come winter.

He told the programme: ‘There is a debate over this. The general advice from the Energy Saving Trust is that you have it on when you need it and you turn it off when you don’t need it.

‘The myth that it is cheaper to have it on all day is false. The slight argument for that is if you have a house that is prone to condensation.

‘In most cases turn the heat on when you need it and turn it off when you don’t need it. Best to do it on a timer or a thermostat.’

Over the last few weeks, as temperatures plummet, Mr Lewis has sought to clear up some of the public’s biggest questions about energy bills, especially around the energy price guarantee.

The personal finance guru has routinely published top tips and hacks to make the most of your money this winter.
