Man Utd news: Casemiro plan revealed as Bruno Fernandes identifies unrepeatable “mistakes”

Manchester United can redeem themselves following Sunday’s Manchester derby defeat when they take on Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League tonight, as they go in search of three points to go top of Group E.

And one player who will be hoping to make a big impact in Cyprus is Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, whose limited gametime since his summer arrival has been explained by Erik ten Hag. Elsewhere, Bruno Fernandes has identified three “mistakes” which United cannot repeat, while Ten Hag has also been slammed for ignoring a Cristiano Ronaldo “argument”.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag explains Casemiro role

Man United midfielder Casemiro was once again overlooked in Sunday’s Manchester derby defeat as his slow start to life at Old Trafford continues, despite a big money move from Real Madrid in the summer.

However, ahead of tonight’s Europa League game against Omonia, Ten Hag has revealed in his pre-match press conference why the Brazilian has been restricted to game time since his arrival, with Scott McTominay’s form playing a big part.

He said: "We will play tomorrow our best team, we have to construct a team because we want a competitive culture. It had nothing to do with Casemiro, it had all to do with Scott. When he wasn't in the team at Brentford, we lost. Casemiro will have an important role, we know his background, the titles he's won, you see every day in training."

Bruno Fernandes identifies three unrepeatable “mistakes”

United midfielder Fernandes has identified three “mistakes” from the 6-3 derby loss to Man City over the weekend that he says cannot be repeated for the remainder of the season by the Red Devils.

The United squad held a team meeting in the wake of the embarrassment at City, with Fernandes leading the analysis of their mistakes. And he picked out three of the goals his side conceded in particular as he encouraged his team-mates to improve.

He said: “We know the mistakes and we can't repeat them again. We don't have to focus on anyone else. We have to focus on ourselves. That has been the problem for the club in previous years, that we want to compare ourselves with other teams.”

Erik ten Hag slammed for ignoring Cristiano Ronaldo “argument”

Graeme Souness insists Ronaldo is being disrespected by Ten Hag after the Dutchman left him as an unused substitute on the Man United bench in Sunday’s 6-3 mauling at Man City.

Ten Hag opted to use all five of his substitutes and not bring on Ronaldo, claiming that he didn't introduce his No.7 out of respect for his career, although that argument has not gone down well with a number of former players and pundits.

And Souness has since insisted the 37-year-old is arguably the greatest player in history and is being disrespected by United. He said on TalkSport : "Ronaldo has an argument, he can sit with any group of players in the history of the game, if they’re still alive, he can sit in any room with any of them and say ‘I think I’m the best player ever’ he has an argument for that.
