Lost luggage: 11-year-old still missing belongings 2 months after American Airlines flight

The mother of an 11-year-old American Airlines passenger said two months after the accident that her daughter was still waiting for her carry-on luggage. I'm talking Flight from Arizona to North Carolina.

Beth Gill, her husband, and two daughters traveled to Las Vegas on her two-week vacation in June to connect in Raleigh, North Carolina, on June 16. I took a flight from Phoenix to Charlotte, NC.

After a delay on the first leg of the flight, theairline informed Gil's husband and daughter that they had to check in their carry-on bags because there was not enough room on the plane. I told you that there is overhead compartment. However, Gill says there was a visible space in the rear compartment of the plane.

I didn't want to worry about it not happening," Ms Gill told Insider.

"My husband was like, 'This is ridiculous. They're going to lose our luggage,'" she added. "He was just feeling about it."

Upon arrival at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, the family experienced further delays due to a shortage of crew. American Airlines ultimately canceled the flight from Charlotte to Raleigh at 1:30 am on Friday, about two and a half hours after the scheduled departure time.

Ms. Gill was told by Charlotte that her next flight would be on Sunday evening to Raleigh, which is 160 miles away. The family weren't provided with accommodation or a rental car, they said, and the airline said both were unavailable. The staff advised to pick up the luggage, but when Ms. Gil's husband went to baggage claim, he was told that there was no one working at the time who could unload the luggage from the plane.

Later, her husband was told that baggage claim was "outside the airport." That meant she was not allowed to return to the terminal to join her family, Gilles said.

Rather than wait until Sunday's flight, the Gil family decided to take the early Friday train to Raleigh. However, this meant that she, who had already checked in, did not receive two bags.

Ms. Gill said she was told by baggage claim in Charlotte that she wouldn't be able to pick up her package until 7am.

American Airlines later informed Mr. Gil that both bags had been transferred to Raleigh Airport.

However, while her husband's bag was returned without incident, Gill's daughter's bag remains missing, two months after her flight.

Ms. Gil asked for her help.

She added that the bereaved families had not been compensated for lost luggage, but that $83 (£69) per person had been reimbursed for canceled flights.

In June, another American Airlines passenger spent several dayswithout luggage, but eventually found it for herself thanks to her iPad.
