An electrical fire at a Google data center in Iowa injured three people.
The Council Bluffs Fire Department answered a call from the data center just before noon on Monday. The department called the fire an "electrical accident" and said it was investigating the cause.
At least three people were injured in this fire. They were taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. One person was reported to be in critical condition and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Authorities were unable to confirm their injuries, but a police scanner tracker noted that EMS had attended to three patients at the scene, one with "lower body injuries," One had burns to his face, left arm and thigh, and one had burns to his face.
All three are receiving treatment and are in stable condition, a Google spokesperson told Metro.co.uk.
"The health and safety of all workers is our absolute top priority and we are working closely with our partners and local authorities to thoroughly investigate the situation and, if necessary, We are providing assistance," said a spokesperson.
The incident at the data center coincided with a major service outage reported Monday, but the company said the fire was not the cause of the problem.
User reported problems accessing Google Search and Google Maps, which the company said was the result of an internal software error.
"We are aware of a software update issue that temporarily impacted the availability of Google Search and Maps, and we apologize for the inconvenience. is now back online," a Google spokesperson told Metro.co.uk.
Accidents in data centers are known to disrupt service. In July, Google's facilities were forced to shut down in the UK after a massive heat wave hit the country.
Google's data center in Council Bluffs is he one of Google's largest facilities. It was built in 2007 and has since been expanded multiple times. According to the website, he has over 900 employees.
