Dog was bitten in the face by a 15-foot adder as heatwave sets off veterinary alert for snakes

A mother recounts a "terrifying" moment when her family's pup was bitten in the face by a 15-foot-long snake.

The recent spike in snakebites has led veterinarians to warn Britons to beware of adders in the looming heat wave.

North Catherine, 43, from Great Eyton, Yorkshire, was walking with her dog, Harry, on Codd's Beck on Monday night when she saw a huge bush in the bushes. I realized that there are living creatures.

The couple started back in the car, hoping to escape before hitting Harry.

But when their one-year-old Cocker spaniel began to sleep, they realized something was wrong.

By the time they got home, his face was starting to swell, and Catherine saw a fang mark on Harry's lip and realized he had been bitten.

Now Katherine shared her story to raise awareness. Veterinarians have warned dog owners to beware of wild snakes due to rising temperatures.

Catherine told The Mirror: }

"My husband said, 'I've never seen a snake this big in real life.'

"He was taking pictures and said, 'Come on, the dog might bite you.' The whole side of his face was swollen and I panicked and said 'a snake bit him.'

'His neck was swollen like a ball.

"It was on his face and neck and could have blocked his airway. I have to take him to the vet immediately."

"Don't sleep all night."

After being rushed to the emergency vet, Harry was put on antivenom and kept on an IV for two days.

The veterinarian told Catherine that the day before she already gave her one dog antivenom. said I had to use

"It's incredible how many people say they didn't even know there were snakes in Britain.

I've been bitten by a snake too.

"If If I had seen the warning from the vet, I wouldn't have taken him there.It's the heat that's taking them out.It's been so hot this year, so they're really bad."

Vets4Pets Northallerton, a veterinary surgeon who issued a warning on a social media page raising awareness about the problem of beauty spots in the North Yorkshire Moors.

In a Facebook statement, they wrote: } "Adders have been found in the area and unfortunately some dog owners have witnessed first hand the effects of these snake bites on their dogs.

"In this area Be careful when walking your dog, and if you suspect your dog has been bitten, see a veterinarian as soon as possible."

But Catherine, who works as a supervisor at Middlesbrough University, also noted that the beauty spot is popular among families and young people.
