Coleen Rooney breaks silence on Rebekah Vardy libel case as Disney+ show looms

Coleen Rooney has opened up about her court battle against Rebekah Vardy - which saw her win in a libel case dubbed ‘Wagatha Christie’.

The legal case was ignited in October 2019 when 37-year-old Coleen took to social media to sensationally accuse fellow WAG Rebekah, 41, of selling stories about her personal life to The Sun. She made the accusation revealing she had planted fake stories on her own social media channels, but limited who could see the false information, and then was surprised when the fake news made its way into the tabloids.

Rebekah furiously denied she had been leaking the information and sued Coleen for libel - with the case resulting in a high-profile high court trial which ended in July last year. Since the judge ruled in favour of Coleen, numerous stage and screen adaptations of the case have been produced. And later this month, yet another TV show will examine the case as Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story will stream via Disney+.

Ahead of the release, Coleen has spoken to The Times and she has shared details of how she felt during the trial. The mum-of-four - who is, of course, married to footballer Wayne Rooney - said: "Everyone was saying so many things about the case at the time, including the other side. But I didn't, because I'm not that type of person. But now it's my turn to speak."

Casting her ming back to the trial itself, Coleen explained she was nervous walking into court every morning. She said: "I'd never been in a courtroom before and I was really nervous. I never spoke on the way to London and every morning in the hotel I didn't speak."

Coleen also explained that Wayne, 37 - who she has been married to for 15 years and has stood by him through various cheating scandals - gave her confidence as he supported her during the trial. She said the former England player said: "You just tell the truth, because no one can wrong with the truth."

Last month, fellow WAG, Danielle Lloyd - who herself has had troubles in the past, including being engulfed in a racism storm when she was on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007 - threw her support behind Coleen. She told OK that she congratulated Coleen on a Vogue shoot that she conducted to promote her Disney + show.

Danielle, 39, said: "I haven’t had a chance to catch up with her properly," model Danielle, 39, explains. "But I texted her afterwards saying she looked incredible on the cover and that she’s done Liverpool proud. She looked fantastic."

She also hinted that she’s dumped Rebekah as a friend following the scandal, saying: "I'm a forgive-and-forget person; I can't be bothered with things going on and on. But this is obviously different."
