Best-named gritters hitting UK's snowy roads - from Usain Salt to Sweet Child O Brine

The best-named gritters hitting the UK's snow -covered roads have been revealed - and the names are just as bizarre as the tradition.

Hilarious names such as Usain Salt, Carrie Bradthaw and Gritly Come Dancing have topped the list.

While the UK had a tradition of giving modes of transport bizarre names - such as when a research ship was aptly named Boaty McBoatface following a public vote in 2016 - strangely, this is not the first time gritters have been given a persona.

With the Met Office issuing warnings across the UK as temperatures plummet across the UK, with many areas expected to expereince conditions of -10C next week, as snow will cover a large part of Britain.

Many gritters around the country have received some very hilarious names (

As the nation's fleet of gritters get ready to be hauled in, here's who will be cleaning your area and keeping it safe:

Keeping drivers safe this week through Strathaven, South Lanarkshire, Scotland is Carrie Bradthaw.

And cruising through East Riding of Yorkshire is Gritney Houston, as Usain Salt is out and about in Irvine, North Ayrshire, Scotland.

Meanwhile, Sweet Child O' Brine will be spreading salt in roads across Saltcoats, North Ayrshire, as Gritly Come Dancing will be doing the same in Crieff, in Perth and Kinross.

Another hilarious gritter has been called Grit Tok, and drivers will be able to spot them clearing roads in Fankerton, Falkirk.

Other council's across the UK have followed suit and given their gritters new names.

Voldergrit is on the roads in Chelmsford, Essex, Thaw Enforcement in East Riding of Yorkshire, with Itsy Bitsy Teeney Weeney Yellow Anti-Slip Machiney and David Plowie are out in Doncaster.

Scotland's gritters have risen to prominence in recent years. This is due to their completely absurd names, coupled with a website that allows fans to track their movements.

Meanwhile, one council in Britain has revealed the new names the public has chosen for its gritters, after asking school children across the area for their help.
