Amazon workers to get £500 payment to help with the cost of living crisis

Amazon is paying its staff £500 to help with the cost of living crisis.

The online shopping giant will be making the payment to hourly-paid staff in two chunks.

The first £250 will be paid in October, and the rest in December.

Amazon workers including full and part-time staff, as well as seasonal workers, will get the £500.

An Amazon statement said: "Starting pay is a minimum of between £10.50 and £11.45 per hour, depending on location.

“Employees are offered a comprehensive benefits package that includes private medical insurance, life assurance, income protection, subsidised meals, an employee discount and more, which combined are worth thousands of pounds annually, as well as a company pension plan.

“On top of this we have announced that every full-time, part-time and seasonal associate will receive an additional one-time special payment of up to £500 this year.”

Nationwide is paying its staff a £1,200 bonus to help with the cost of living crisis.

11,000 members of staff are due to receive the payment, according to the high street building society.

However, around 61% of its staff base are estimated to be entitled to the payment.

Staff at the Co-operative Bank have received a £1,000 boost.

The payment took effect in September and was received by 95% of its employees.

Only those on the highest salaries did not benefit from the payment.

Price comparison website MoneySupermarket has made a one-off £2,000 payment to half its workforce in September to help with the cost of living crisis.

Thousands of staff at Rolls-Royce will be paid an extra £2,000 to help with the cost of living crisis.

More than 14,000 workers at the aerospace giant’s UK sites in Derby and Filton, South Gloucestershire, will receive the payment.

The money will be given to junior managers and shop floor workers, while some 11,000 employees at the firm’s UK manufacturing sites will also receive a 4% pay rise backdated to March.
