A car was left abandoned after it smashed into a lamppost.

Police posted an appeal for information after a blue car was left abandoned when it crashed into a lamppost on Tarporley Avenue, Fallowfield.

No injuries were reported, but reports from neighbours suggested school children were making their way home as the incident happened.

Police found items in the back of the car which are believed to have been taken during a recent burglary.

The car is also believed to have been involved in the burglary, which took place on Friday night in the Fallowfield area.

Officers also reported a strong cannabis smell from inside the car.

A GMP spokesperson posted on Facebook: "To the young lads seen running away from this car on Tarporley Avenue on Tuesday afternoon we have taken it for you, to a nice secure location.

"You left it in a bit of a state, but somehow miraculously following your poor attempt at 'parking' none of you appeared to be injured, and were able to run off."

Police believe all involved are in their mid to late teens.

"Did you see anyone driving this vehicle? or the young lads running off?," the post added.
