You could still get a $1,200 stimulus check THIS YEAR, Nancy Pelosi says

CHECKS NOT DEAD

NANCY Pelosi signaled on Sunday that stimulus checks are still possible this year as House Democrats work to push a new, smaller aid package.

Pelosi, facing pressure from moderate Democrats, said another aid package with stimulus checks is still possible as the House Speaker works to push forward a $2.4 trillion package -- $1 trillion less than their original proposal.

Speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Pelosi said that she believes a solution for the aid package can be reached amid her “good faith” conversations with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.

“When I have a conversation with the Administration, it is in good faith.  I trust Secretary Mnuchin to represent something that can reach a solution and I believe we can come to an agreement,” Pelosi said.

Earlier this month, Mnuchin indicated that the administration would not approve a plan larger than $1.5 trillion after talks about the Dems' proposed $3 trillion HEROES bill stalled last month.

However, Pelosi added that at some point President Donald Trump and the public will “have to see why $2.2 or now $2.4 trillion dollars is necessary.”

“For restaurants, for small stages around the country, for, again, more money needed for PPP, more money for the airlines and the rest.  So, we may need more money than that.  And we will reveal what that is in a short period of time,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi also slammed the president for his “denial of the virus” and claims he has “made matters worse in so many ways” by his “resistance to do anything to crush” the virus.

“We have a chance to get something done and we want to – what we will be putting forth is a proffer to say: Now, let us negotiate within a time frame and a dollar amount to get the job done to put money in people's pockets, to honor our heroes and to crush the virus,” Pelosi said.
