UK heatwave forecast: It's coming! Scorching blast to boil Britain in days – BBC update

BBC Weather: Temperatures to soar across UK

The scorching temperatures which Britons have basked in since last week are set to be upset by some unsettled conditions from Wednesday evening. However, next week's charts are looking promising as sun-starved people plan beach trips and holidays. BBC Weather said from now until Sunday June 20 "the hottest conditions will be in the southeast, where a short-lived heatwave is possible".

Londoners are set for a scorching Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures forecast to be 25C and 28C respectively.

Meteorologists at the BBC said tomorrow will start with patches of cloud which will clear to leave sunshine in the afternoon.

And on Wednesday the capital is set for another "dry, hot day with plenty of sunshine throughout".

On Wednesday night thunderstorms will kick in, causing the heatwave of a week and a half to break up.

The storms "will bring frequent thunder and flashes of lightning" as well as heavy rains and some gusts of winds.

On Thursday the thunderstorms should begin to clear up, and by Friday conditions will be a little calmer.

In their forecast for Saturday June 19 to Sunday June 28, the Met Office forecasts another sunny period is in store for Britain.

The Met Office said: "It is likely to be warm for most, to very warm and humid in the southeast where there remains a risk of thundery showers.

"Elsewhere, some sunny spells and variable cloud with fresher conditions.

"Some showers in the south and along northern and western coastlines, and windier conditions towards the far northwest. "

They said while showers are possible, there is also a chance of "warm and humid air returning to the far southeast".

And as the UK moves into July, weather experts said Britons should expect many more days of glorious sunshine.

In their forecast for Monday June 28 and Monday July 12, the Met Office said: "Temperatures are likely to be slightly above average, although cooler conditions may occasionally affect the northwest.

"Meanwhile, very warm perhaps hot conditions could affect the south and east at times."

They said rainfall for this period will be close to average for the time of the year and added that "thunderstorms may develop during warmer periods."

A yellow weather warning is in place for the eastern half of Wales and much of England from Wednesday to Friday and the Met Office said there is potential for travel disruption and flooding.

Meteorologist Dan Stroud said: "We're likely to become increasingly changeable towards the weekend.

"There is still the potential for some more settled spells and some warm weather is possible later in the month, but it is generally turning more changeable from this weekend."

Today Britons are enjoying their hottest day of the year so far, with the mercury skyrocketing to a sweltering 28.6C.

The UK's previous high of 2021 was 28.3C in Northolt, north-west London, on June 2.

The Met Office has warned people to be prepared when heading out and about due to high UV and pollen levels across much of England and Wales.
