Thorniewood United grabbed derby bragging rights with a 3-0 West of Scotland League win over 10-man Lanark United onn Saturday.
But boss Jamie Nesbitt says it also showed how far his side has come since last season.
Darren Bowie scored ’Wood’s opener, with new signing Grant Kelly netting a double, in a game that also saw Declan Brown rattle the Lanark bar with an early penalty.
Lanark were reduced to 10 men on the hour-mark when Josh Gracie picked up two quick yellow cards.
Nesbitt was delighted with the Conference C win and said: “It’s a local derby and until you play them again you’ve got one up on them, so I really enjoyed it.
“It was really pleasing, because the last time we played Lanark they were high-flying, they were going for the league, we had them on the ropes, but a couple of things happened during the game that didn’t go for us, so we ended up losing.
“Just to see the progression that we’ve made since then is outstanding; to play against Lanark and win convincingly, missing a penalty as well.
“It was outstanding just to be back out there – I absolutely loved it.”
The Viewpark club continue their adventure on Saturday with a clash at home to Glasgow Perthshire, and Nesbitt knows what to expect.
He said: “It will be a tough day, but it’s about seeing how we’ve progressed.”
