Drama arrived by the bucketload as new Channel 4 dating show Five Guys A Week came to Sunderland this week.

The premise of Five Guys A Week is that a single lady invites five gents she's never met before to date her over the course a week, with the big twist being that they all have to live under the same roof in her house and she has to give one of them their marching orders every morning until she's left with just one.

But, in the Sunderland episode, which left viewers totally aghast on Tuesday night, single girl Nina was left with only one lad to pick from after three of them threw a huge strop and walked out of the show.

Things went from calm to crazy after a night out at Sunderland nightspot The Palm when Nina kissed one of the lads, part-time model Scott.

To say the other guys - Mark, Joe and Dale - were livid when they found out would be a massive understatement and they didn't just slag Nina off at the top of their voices, so she could hear them from her bed upstairs, then they packed their bags and stormed out of her house.

There was another twist in the tail when they returned hours later, only to refuse to swallow their pride and leave for a second rime.

And viewers couldn't quite believe what was unfolding in front of their eyes! One tweeted: "That was the WILDEST episode of a TV show i've ever seen. Corrie, Eastenders, Hollyoaks and Emmerdale... Eat. Your. Heart. Out," and another reacted: "Five guys a week is a right treat tonight. As if they just got up and f***ed off in the middle of the night."

A third posted: "If you haven’t watched five guys a week yet please watch this weeks episode...f*****g hell," and another reacted: "Five Guys a Week is the tonic I didn't know I needed."

Tweets about the lads specifically weren't too kind at all. One angry viewer posted: "These guys are being so toxic on five guys a week . She's on a dating show and she kissed one of them and then they slate her and walk out. Toxic masculinity at its finest."

And sharing those sentiments, another tweeted: "The lads are like a mix of The Apprentice and Geordie Shore on Five Guys A Week tonight."

The good news is that Five Guys A Week has already confirmed it's coming back for a second series.
