A teenage mum was shot dead by her jealous fiancé because she show ‘too much’ attention to their one-year-old son, police in Brazil said.
Maria Eduarda Lima, 17, was reportedly shot in the head and hand as her son was sitting on her lap, according to reports.
Patrick Azevedo Silva, 22, allegedly carried out the attack in the early hours of Tuesday morning before fleeing.
The victim’s uncle said: “On Monday night, moments before the attack, Maria sent a text to her mum claiming that Patrick was armed and threatening to kill her.”
Her concerned parents raced to her house in Rio de Janeiro and found their severely injured daughter lying on the floor with her toddler crying beside her.
Dad, José Roberto Lima, 38, said he was warned by neighbours about what had happened to his daughter.
He said: “We live close to each other. When I got there, my grandson was crying beside my daughter and (Patrick) was already gone.
“From what I understand, he shot my daughter with my grandson on her lap.”
She was taken alive to Alberto Torres State Hospital where doctors said the bullet was lodged in a difficult region.
They decided to delay surgery in the hope her condition would improve and she would have the strength to withstand the operation.
But she was declared brain dead the following day.
Her family decided to donate her organs before burying her today.
The baby was unharmed and is being cared for by his grandparents.
The gunman, who had already fled the scene, was captured on Tuesday after cops tracked him to a local bus following an anonymous tip off.
