Amy Dowden and Tom Fletcher have been flooded with support after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Welsh Strictly Come Dancing professional and her celebrity partner kicked off Saturday night's live show with the first dance of the series, but the pair won't be returning next week.

BBC One said: "Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden have tested positive for Covid-19. The pair are now self-isolating separately following the latest government guidelines.

"While they will both miss Saturday's live show, Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, they will return the following week."

Shortly after Amy shared an update with her followers, she said: "Unfortunately @tomfletcher and I have tested positive for Covid-19.

"I'm not suffering any symptoms but am now isolating at home. I have no doubt that over the next 10 days my mind will be going crazy with choreography ideas ready to get back on the strictly dance floor for the live show in week 3!

"Thank you for all of the support and good luck to all of the couples this week. I will be cheering you all on! @bbcstrictly."

Amy was quickly flooded with support for her Strictly pro co-stars, with Karen Hauer writing: "Love you babe."

And Nancy Xu commenting: "Love you baby girl see you back in the dance floor soon."

Oti Mabuse echoed: "We love you can't wait to see you soon."

While Graziano Di Prima added: "Darling, see you back in the dance floor soon."

Shortly after Amy shared her fifth professional Strictly photo with a poignant message calling her co-stars family.

She told her 249,000 followers: "I still pinch myself every day to be part of the biggest dance show.

"Watching the show growing up to now myself walking down those magic stairs, performing incredible group numbers with professional dancers I see as family and most of all taking my celebrity on a rollocoaster journey of dance and watching them fall in love with the ballroom world.

"I feel so grateful to be able to wake up every day and do something I love and dreamed of!

"All I can say is don’t be scared to dream big!!!"
