Sara Davies MBE has shared some secrets about boozy double-dates between herself, her husband Simon, her Strictly partner Aljaž and his professional dancer wife Janette.

Discussing her arguable shaky start on Week 1 of the show, for which she scored a low 17/40 for her Cha Cha Cha, the Dragon's Den entrepreneur said: "That feels like a distant memory - but kind of a very real one. I felt like I was giving it my all but they just needed to see more energy.

"I went into it thinking, 'I'm in control of this, I've got it, I've learned the steps', I was really happy with myself.

"Then I got a 3 from Craig [Revel Horwood] and I was like, 'oh dear!'. But, I thought, it's Week 1, everyone's going to get scores like that. I was quite near the front, and the show went on and on, and the leader board just stretched and stretched and I just kind of stayed here [indicating the bottom of the board]."

Sara believes that if a contestant had in fact been eliminated in Week 1 of the competition, that it would have definitely been herself.

"I think I was bookie's favourite to go out in Week 2 so I thought, 'I'm going to show them' - So, yeah! I kind of came out and smashed it in Week 2 with my Foxtrot."

Speaking in an exclusive interview with ITV's Loose Women today, the two-time Strictly leader board topper said: "I think the thing that made me more determined is that I want to be the best.

Sara jokingly accused her dance partner of being a "bad influence" after encouraging her and her husband to drink tequila shots the night before a rehearsal.

"When I do something in business, I've always found that the harder I work, the better I get at it. I felt like I'd worked really hard in that first week, and clearly my best wasn't good enough.

"Then I just found that inner strength to plough on and go for it."

Partnered with professional dancer Aljaž Škorjanec, the 37-year-old business mogul knocked the judges socks off in Week 2 with her Foxtrot performance which earned her the highest score of the evening.

The following Week 3, she went above and beyond again to impress their judges with her Samba, which she and Aljaž performed as Shrek and Princess Fiona.

Saturday's Strictly audience were blown away yet again by Sara's performance after she scored an incredible four 9s from the judges for her powerful tango.

Speaking about her Tango, she disclosed: "I didn't have to put on a performance, I could just be in the moment and kind of feel the music."

It was then that the Loose Women were also joined by Sara's Strictly partner Aljaž, who has featured as one of the show's professionals since 2013 and is married to former Strictly-pro and It Takes Two host, Janette Manrara

Loose Women panellist Jane Moore then asked the dance star what he made of his partner's strong Geordie accent, to which he replied: "I'm loving it, I'm absolutely loving it.

"I've been learning something new everyday. I think that I've learned just as much when it gets to the accent as Sara has learned with dancing."

The dancing duo then revealed that the show has brought their families close together in a way they didn't expect.

"It's been great for us because Janette has been coming up on Monday's so we can go out to dinner the four of us."

"Last night, I had these two, Janette and Aljaž, round for dinner at our house.

"We had way too many shots of café patron," she revealed, looking to Aljaž. "That's you - bad influence there."

"This was not good when we had to get up at six-o-clock this morning and dance. I met him at the training room this morning and was like, 'Oh, I'm still hanging!'.

"But, we had such a laugh. Janette is an absolute fire-cracker. Her and my husband have hit it off as well, so it's been brilliant spending time with the four of us."

Singing his dance partner's praises, Aljaž said: "Even from day one in rehearsals, from that Cha Cha Cha, I was amazed by the focus that someone can have in the training room.

"It's just this constant sort-of wanting to learn. Even if we take a two minute break, Sara is always the one that goes, 'Ok, let's get back to it'.

"I'm just amazed really by the amount of focus and trust that you put in me, because Sara has a massive business with over 200 people that are employed, and the amount of trust that I get in the rehearsal room, it's incredible.

"Sara really listens to every single thing that I say, and I think that's what is the secret to our progress."

The 2019 Outstanding Contribution to British Business Award winner then quickly jumped in to add: "Only in here though!

"The deal we've got, girls, is that in the training room here, he gets to be the boss and I acknowledge and accept that he knows best and I'm going to do what he says."

She joked: "However, as soon as we walk out that door I'm like, 'Right! We're going here, we're doing this, I've got to pick the kids up, you're going there!'".

Sara and Aljaž will be shimmying across our BBC screens again on Saturday night where they will one again battle for that glitterball trophy.
