Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice has landed a new acting role in a film alongside a Hollywood actor as he makes a big career change.

Giovanni, 30, will be starring in a fantasy film called Man and Witch: The Dance of a Thousand Steps with acting legend Christopher Lloyd, known for playing Doc in the Back to the Future films.

His other co stars include Sean Astin, who played Sam in the Lord of the Rings films, Tami Stronach from The NeverEnding Story, and Michael Emerson, who played Benjamin Linus in Lost.

Games of Thrones actor Daniel Portman, who played Podrick Payne, and Pauline McLynn from Father Ted, EastEnders and Shameless are also starring in the film.

The film role was said to be a "dream come true" for the Strictly hunk

Giovanni shot his scenes on location in Glasgow last week, and is still expected to take part in the 2021 series of Strictly, after reaching the semi-finals last year with Ranvir Singh as his partner.

A source told the Daily Star: "This is a big deal for Giovanni. He is thrilled to be part of the film that features a legend like Christopher.

"And he is hoping this will be the start of a whole new career for him."

Friends of the Italian dancer also revealed it was a "dream come true" for Giovanni, and he "loved every second of it".

The film's synopsis teases: "Paper Canoe Studio brings to the screen Man and Witch: The Dance of a Thousand Steps.

"A sly fable set in a magical Kingdom, Man and Witch pays homage to the beloved fantasy films of the 80s, complete with an ironic contemporary framing device à la the Princess Bride and the Never Ending Story, and all the exciting elements (Ogres! Magic! Swordfights! Talking animal puppets!) that make fantasy films one of the most valuable commodities in the entertainment industry: a world you'll want to visit over and over again with your kids."

A representative for Giovanni Pernice declined to comment.
