Liverpool favourite the Tavern Company has revealed it has begun to offer a grocery delivery service.

The Smithdown Road restaurant has confirmed that despite closing its doors after the government ordered bars, restaurants and shops to close earlier this week, it will deliver to customers.

In a statement on the Tavern Co website, it was confirmed that each day between 9am and 2pm volunteer staff would deliver groceries.

A note at the top of the menu says: "All of our staff have been furloughed and we've ceased trading as a restaurant, however, in these difficult times we've decided as a team to use our building and infrastructure to help you in the community.

"All delivery fees and tips go directly to drivers and packers and all proceeds go to charity.

"We intend on offering this service to the community as long as its safe for our volunteers. We are following all government directives in relation to stemming the spread of the virus but if any volunteer exhibits symptoms we regret we will have to cease the service immediately.

"You in the community have supported the Tavern Co and our staff for thirty years this July. This is our opportunity to give something back by offering deliveries and donating any proceeds to a local charity to be decided by public vote on Facebook at the end of each month."
