Schools on lockdown as armed police close off building and ‘train guns on car’ in Derbyshire

A SCHOOL has been placed on lockdown as armed police aim guns at a car in Derbyshire.

Children at Wilsthorpe School in the Long Eaton area have been kept in classrooms as the gun cops swoop in on a nearby address.

Derbyshire Police said it was dealing with an individual inside a nearby home and have closed surrounding roads with Harrington Junior School nearby.

A spokesperson said: "Armed officers are currently at an address on Briar Gate in Long Eaton. We are speaking to an occupant at the address and there is currently a cordon in place."

The force has also launched a drone unit to deal with the incident.

ARMED SWOOP

One worried mum said she saw armed cops swoop but was told to clear the area by officers.

She told the Derbyshire Telegraph: "I’ve just seen armed police holding a gun at someone or a car.

"It scared me and my daughter. I’ve asked police if we are safe and they told me as long as we keep away from the cordon.”
