The woman, leaning close to the driver's side window, appears then to walk away before returning and spitting twice at the window.

The video shows the woman, wearing a short sleeve purple top, get back into a red car - believed to be a Honda Jazz.

She then drives off before causing further problems for cars behind by stopping and starting in the middle of the road.

The driver of the black car, whose car the woman allegedly spat at, is reported to have been on her way to pick up her husband from hospital who is being treated for cancer.

The truck driver who shot the footage on his phone told the ECHO : "I was still in work, I was in the truck going back to the yard.

"I didn't see what started it off but I pulled up behind as she was getting out of the car.

"She was shouting swearwords, none of which made any sense. She spat at least twice on the car."

After the woman got back in her car, he described her continuing to stop the traffic all the way up the road.

He said: "She posted on Facebook to say that her mother-in-law was alright and she wasn't going to press charges.

"She was on her way to collect her husband in hospital as he's going through cancer treatment.

"She said she was glad the car doors were locked because she dreads to think what could have happened."

Merseyside Police have been in contact with the victim following the incident, but it is understood no report was formally made.

The truck driver added: "I thought it was an absolutely disgusting thing to do especially during a pandemic.

"She's unbelievably lucky, it could have been really bad, especially if she's tested positive for Covid or anything like that."
