A road in Chorley is closed this evening due to a fire which has caused a large amount of black smoke to rise into the air.

Eaves Lane is currently closed from Lyons Lane to Brook Street in the town as a result.

Multiple witness reports have indicated that the fire is at the site of the new Tatton Development is being built. This was previously the former Stagecoach bus depot.

The plans will see the site turned into 62 apartments where older people can live independently but with on-site support and assistance if it is needed.

At least two appliances from Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service are in attendance but it is expected that more will soon join them.

The smoke can be seen for miles around with crews from Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service seen using breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.
