Rangers are back in Europa League group stage action for the fourth year in a row.

Steven Gerrard's men have consistently been good at this level of the competition but they face arguably their hardest test so far when Lyon visit.

The Ibrox boss is heading into his 50th European game as Rangers manager and he's looking to get his 26th win during that time, with just eight defeats along the way.

Rangers have some defensive issues with Filip Helander out until December at the earliest but Connor Goldson is back in action after his Covid issue.

Alfredo Morelos is also likely to start for the Ibrox men but for Lyon, there's disappointment as Moussa Dembele is unavailable through injury.

The former Celtic striker is well known in these parts and seeing him go up against a much more solid Rangers defence would have been interesting to see.

Brondby and Sparta Prague are the other two teams in this group and they also face off tonight so we'll keep you up to date there too.

Stay tuned for all the latest.

Rangers last game against Lyon at Ibrox

It's one of those matches that are always remembered for a few reasons.

Lyon won 3-0 at Ibrox, after Rangers had won 3-0 in France, but it was Karim Benzema's performance on the night that was memorable.

The Real Madrid legend was unplayable at Ibrox that night and scored twice.

Rangers had a chance to level when Jean-Claude Darcheville missed a sitter from under the bar. At the time it seemed bad, but it ended up leading Rangers into the UEFA Cup and a trip to Manchester six months later.

Sutton and Lennon banned from Ibrox

Rangers have told BT Sport pundits Chris Sutton and Neil Lennon they won’t be allowed access to Ibrox on Thursday evening to cover the Old Firm’s Europa League clashes.

Record Sport understands Gers chiefs have informed BT of the decision this afternoon to refuse entry due to security concerns.

The former Celtic manager and striker have now been taken off punditry duty having been expected to make Ibrox the base for media duties for the Hoops' clash against Real Betis in Spain and then Rangers ' encounter against Lyon in Glasgow.

But the broadcasters were told it would not be possible to accommodate the duo and it is understood BT Sport have been forced to make alternate plans and host both games from their studios in London with a new punditry team.

Goldson returns

Good news for Rangers is that Connor Goldson is fit and available for the Ibrox men as they host Lyon.

He missed Saturday's game against St Johnstone because he was forced to self-isolate after a Covid scare.

But he is back again and will take his usual place in the middle of the Ibrox side's defence.
