Rangers are strong favourites to secure victory over Malmo in Sweden that would put one foot in the Champions League play-off round.

But Steven Gerrard clearly isn’t taking much notice of the odds ahead of his side’s trip to Eleda Stadium.

The Light Blues boss was asked by a Swedish reporter if he viewed his side as favourites for the first leg of the third round qualifying tie.

It’s a question that managers are usually keen to avoid - unless it’s to label the opposition as favourites in an attempt at mind games.

Gerrard probably knew that would have been too much of a stretch so he opted to swerve the question.

And instead he pointed his inquisitor to the many bookmakers who will be offering odds on the match.

Asked: “Do you see yourself as favourites?”deadpan Gerrard said: “The last time I checked I’m a football manager, not a bookmaker.

“If you want to look at the odds then just find a website - there’s many of them out there - if you want to find out some decent odds on the game.”

Rangers are involved in the Champions League for the first time in a decade when they went out of Europe’s elite competition with Malmo the opposition on that occasion.

But they will be hoping to make up for that and go one step closer to the lucrative group stage against the Swedes with the return at Ibrox next week.
