Rafa Benitez has insisted that he can win a trophy at Everton with a blunt response in a recent interview.

The manager was appointed as the new Blues manager at the end of June following the surprise departure of Carlo Ancelotti earlier that month.

And the club have hit the ground running with an impressive start to the 2021/22 season despite injuries to key players and a recent home defeat to West Ham United.

One of the downsides to the term so far was an early exit from the League Cup, losing on penalties against Queens Park Rangers after a 2-2 draw.

But, that hasn't stopped the ambition of the manager from shining through in a recent interview with Sky Sports.

When asked whether he can win a trophy with Everton, Benitez bluntly responded: "Yes. That's it."

The manager later went into detail about his views on the Blues' credentials.

He doesn't know how much time it will take for his side to be competitive as he wants them to be, but he is happy with the improvements already being made at Goodison Park.

"No I think we need some time, I won't say we can't do anything now," Benitez added.

"I think we are improving, it's very clear and evident for everyone that we are, and hopefully we can improve as much as I want to be sure that we are competitive in every game.

"If you are competitive in every game, you can go to a cup competition and do something, so you never know. When you are doing well, people have more belief and it's easier.

"I think we can do it. How long it will take, I don't know. Hopefully the first year but you never know!"

Everton currently find themselves in eighth place in the Premier League table, three points behind Man City in third.
