Premium Bond winners for December have been announced - and there are two new millionaires in time for Christmas.

The first big winner is from West Sussex who is now £1million richer.

This person holds £46,000 in Premium Bonds and they bought their winning Bond 306VK958372 in July 2017.

The second new millionaire is from Lancashire with the Bond number 437QD081540.

They purchased this Bond in February 2021 and hold £14,725 in Premium Bonds.

In the December 2021 prize draw, a total of 3,331,069 prizes worth £95,768,225 were paid out and there were 114,921,860,273 Bond numbers eligible for the draw.

Since the first draw in June 1957, ERNIE has drawn 545 million prizes with a total value of £22.4billion.

Premium Bonds is a savings product issued by NS&I.

But instead of earning interest, you are entered into a monthly prize draw where you can win between £25 and £1million tax free.

This means your chance of winning is completely down to chance - and you may not win anything at all.

You can withdraw all your money back from NS&I whenever you want to.

The minimum amount you can have invested in Premium Bonds is £25, and the maximum is £50,000.

Jill Waters, NS&I Retail Director, said: “A massive congratulations to our Premium Bonds jackpot winners in West Sussex and Lancashire.

“A month on from the 65th anniversary of Premium Bonds going on sale, ERNIE has gone back to his roots and picked a winner from Lancashire where he is based.

“With more than 3.3 million other prizes being dished out in December, Christmas will definitely be coming early for those Premium Bonds customers up and down the country.”

How to find out if you're a winner

Customers can use the prize checker tool and prize checker app to see if they have won.

If you have an Amazon Alexa, you can also ask it to tell you the latest winning numbers.

To see if you've won, you will need to enter your Premium Bonds holders’ number.

Those who have chosen to have prizes paid to their bank account, or have their prizes reinvested, will be informed whether they have won by email or text message.

NS&I had said it would phase out the use of Premium Bonds prize cheques from this spring, but it has since U-turned on this decision following complaints from customers.

It means customers can continue to receive their prize by cheque, should they wish.

At the moment the odds of each individual Bond number winning any prize are currently 34,500 to 1.

The prize fund rate and the odds of winning are variable, so they can change from time to time.

Customers can choose to have their prizes paid straight into their bank account, or to have them automatically reinvested into new Premium Bonds.
