A popular Japanese restaurant in East Kilbride Village has taken home multiple top awards.
OiiShi walked away with the best Sushi restaurant award at the Scottish Asian food awards.
They also won the best Asian restaurant at the 2019 Spice awards.
The eatery has been in the Village since October 2017 and is joint venture between Steven Lau and Darren Teo.
Darren told the News: “I helped Steven in the beginning with it as that is the background I come from.
“Over the years I got more and more involved in the restaurant and it has been a big interest for me.
“I help to get our brand name out there.”
The restaurant is well known in East Kilbride and is described by Darren as the ‘OG Japanese cuisine’.
It has also been a relatively fast start for the business, winning three major awards in two years.
“I don’t think we ever expected to do so well in such a short time frame,” Darren said.
“We are the only Japanese restaurant in the area and it was a challenge to break into the market.”
“The guys wanted to try and break the stigma that Japanese food is just ‘raw fish’ and they wanted to show people that they have so much more to offer.
“We serve everything from Ramen noodles to Tempura and even do Teppanyaki cooking.
“There is lots of choice here and it isn’t just Sushi and raw fish.
“People that come for the first time and might be a bit sceptical always leave happy and surprised.”
OiiShi has a healthy group of regulars that eat at the restaurant all the time, and they even attract famous faces.
“Jamie Genevieve (Makeup and fashion influencer) absolutely loves it here. She has made videos in the restaurant and some people have came off seeing those.”
OiiShi is situated on Hunter St in The Village and offers both sit in and take-a-way options. If you want to enquire call them on
