Piers Morgan left fans overjoyed after taking to Twitter to drop a "big announcement" regarding a surprising career move.

The outspoken TV presenter - who is currently taking a break from hosting Good Morning Britain - sparked fears he was leaving the programme earlier today.

It read: "I'll be making a big announcement at midday. Watch this space."

Many began worrying that their favourite early morning ITV host was going to announce he was leaving the show.

One replied: "I hope you're not leaving GMB. We need you there."

A second agreed: "Please be the face of @GMB. It's not the same without you, you're the best breakfast and news presenter in the UK, you challenge and ask the right questions everything us public want to know and the answers we want to hear. Please carry on campaigning for us you're the best."

Soon after his mysterious message, he joked: "UPDATE: No, I'm not Ghislaine Maxwell's secret husband, nor am I transitioning, providing Bitcoin advice, quitting GMB, going vegan or replacing Jofra Archer in the Test match. All will be revealed at high noon."

Many of his fans were delighted when they found out that actually he isn't going anywhere.

One replied: "Glad you’re not quitting GMB was genuinely getting worried, only watch it because I love how you ask the real questions and don’t let them lie or change the subject."

Finally revealing what his original tweet was all about, he announced: "BREAKING: I’m delighted to announce my new book: "WAKE UP - Why the ‘liberal’ war on free speech is even more dangerous than Covid–19."

"Out on October 15th in hardback, ebook & audiobook read by me."

And while many were pleased about the big reveal of his new book, others thought his announcement was perhaps going to be about something more exciting.

One Twitter user replied to Piers saying: "I'm fairly certain, this is the most underwhelming announcement of the year. Possibly of the century. I'm also fairly certain, sales will be extremely low."

A second wrote: "So basically why people should let bigoted people say and do whatever they want no matter how harmful or against the stand point of the platforms which they stand on without accountability... gotcha, nice one."

"Piers, I was hoping your announcement was going to be what your favourite BISCUIT is. I, like many others no doubt, are very disappointed." another added.

Piers is currently absent from GMB after choosing to take the summer off work.

The 55-year-old has been living it up in St Tropez after posting an image of himself wearing a mask on a flight out to France earlier this week.

He and co-host Susanna Reid are both absent from the show and are not due to return the ITV1 daytime TV favourite until September.

GMB continues on ITV1 each weekday morning, airing from 6am with an array of different presenters at the helm hosting proceedings.
