These pictures show the mess left behind at the car park of a children's play centre after a group of Travellers left the site.

Photographs taken after the encampment packed up and left Bubbles World of Play on Kings Parade in New Brighton show empty cans of food, bags of rubbish and rags strewn across the area.

Wet wipes, drinks bottles, a broken brush, baby products and broken furniture have all been left on the site.

The group arrived at the site on Wednesday. The area is owned by Bubbles and considered private land.

"There was dog poo everywhere and what looks like excrement in the grass on the edge.

"I feel for the owners of Bubbles, after a year of lost money because of the covid restrictions, now they have to deal with this.

"They will have to have the whole thing pressure washed because there is glass and the stains."

Despite the mess left behind, people who had conversed with the group earlier in the week had praised them and their manners on Facebook.

Bubbles were approached for comment, but they have previously stated: "We had a number of different encampments last summer by groups of Travellers. Each time they moved barriers that we installed to keep the car park secure whilst we were closed since last March."

The spokesperson referred to a number of concerns including piles of wood left behind, and also claimed washing machines set up on site had led to wastewater being pumped in to surface water drains that run into the Marine Lake.

Wirral Council would not comment on the situation as the caravans are parked on private land.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers were in attendance at the Bubbles World of Play car park when the Travellers were moved on by the authorities.

Police oversaw the process but did not move individuals from the site directly as the land is privately owned and would therefore be classified as a civil matter.
