Four vehicles were involved in a collision last night (May 28) in Whitworth that resulted in one of the vehicles crashing through the porch of a house.

Police closed the road until the early hours of this morning after the crash on Market Street at around 10pm last night.

Lancashire Constabulary confirmed that there were no serious injuries as a result of the incident and that no arrests were made. However, the fire service did have to act to rescue one person from the property and work is now underway to ensure the property is safe.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire & Rescue said: "Fire crews from Bacup and Heywood (Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue) were called to the scene of a road traffic collision in Whitworth. The incident involved a vehicle which had collided with a domestic property.

"The Urban Search and Rescue unit from Bamber Bridge attended to assist making the scene safe and firefighters rescued a casualty from the building using a ladder.

"Two casualties were treated by ambulance crews at the scene and firefighters were in attendance approximately two hours."
