A 77-year-old pensioner in a flat cap was filmed on CCTV bravely fighting off a thief who ambushed him at a cash point in a sickening crime.

The man was using the cash machine at Sainsbury's in Colchester Avenue, Cardiff, when an unknown white male grabbed him near his neck.

In the scuffle, the pensioner determinedly fought back and managed to keep him at arm’s length.

Adopting a boxing stance, the older man then flung a series of punches at the would-be thief until he ran away.
