A major incident has been declared with thousands of North East residents still without power a week after Storm Arwen devastated the region.

On Friday, the North West Durham MO confirmed that 100 soldiers British Army are to assist those left without power after Storm Arwen.

Durham County Council issued the major incident alert following "one of the worst storms in the last decade".

On Friday Northumberland County Council also declared a major incident a week after Storm Arwen hit.

Thousands of homes in the North East remain without power a week after Storm Arwen brought chaos to the region.
