NEWCASTLE are reportedly “concerned” club record signing Joelinton is suffering a lack of confidence after just two games.
The striker was signed for £40million this summer from Hoffenheim following an 11 goal campaign in Germany last season.
However, the 22-year-old has failed to hit the ground running in Newcastle’s opening two defeats against Arsenal and Norwich.
The Telegraph report Toon chiefs are becoming worried the Brazilian’s confidence has been dented with coaching staff are trying to lift his spirits.
It comes after Joelinton missed a golden chance to open the lead against Norwich with the game goalless.
The forward completely miss timed a header inside the box and was then taken off after 66 minutes following a hip injury.
But after a scan the striker has since been cleared off any significant damage.
He is expected to make a return to the squad for Newcastle’s trip to Tottenham on Sunday.
Following two consecutive losses, new Toon boss Steve Bruce has urged his players to show more desire on and off the ball.
He said: “With and without the ball, we certainly didn’t do enough (against Norwich) and we’ll have to put that right. I can’t question anybody’s desire.
“We had a couple of wonderful chances. Those might have given everyone a lift. But we didn’t do enough.
“We knew it was their first home game back in the Premier League, in front of a big, full house. We got caught up in it.”
