Heron Foods is opening a new store in a North Tyneside area.

The discount retail chain is opening the branch on Station Road, in Forest Hall, at 8am on Thursday.

The shop, which will also include a Post Office, has created eight new jobs in both full and part-time roles, as well as keeping 12 staff from the previous convenience store there.

On Thursday, the store will be offering a scratchcard-style giveaway to the first 250 customers spending over £5, with top prizes worth £50 to be found, and other prizes including £5 vouchers, product vouchers, and £1 off £10 spend coupons.

In addition, visitors to the company’s Facebook page had the chance to choose their favourite charity, which will be given £250 as a thank you from Heron Foods to mark the opening of the new site. The chosen charity will be announced on opening day.

Store manager Michelle Watson said: "We're thrilled to be launching a new store including a Post Office in Forest Hall and look forward to welcoming customers through the doors.

"Our new Forest Hall store will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people the best choice of goods at exceptionally low prices which change regularly to keep on providing unbeatable prices on big brands.

"I’d personally like to thank colleagues for their efforts in getting the new store ready, as well as our new neighbours who have already shown support."

The shop will be open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. There will be a free-to-use cash machine on site.
