A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his 70s was found dead in his home.

Cops were called to the house yesterday just before 5pm following a call out by paramedics and the bungalow has been cordoned off as investigators comb the crimescene.

Officers arrested a 26-year-old man at the house and he has been detained on suspicion of murder.

Police are appealing to the local community for help into their murder enquiry as cops quiz neighbours who may have heard a disturbance.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 460 of 1 December.

Detective Inspector Nicole Main, said: “Our investigation remains at an early stage while we continue to piece together the full circumstances surrounding this man’s death.

“While our officers will be conducting local enquiries with neighbours, I would be keen to hear from anyone living locally who may have seen or heard a disturbance at the address yesterday afternoon which may be connected to this incident.

“Any information you have could be extremely important to our enquiry so please get in touch.”

Villagers have reacted with shock and sadness at the news of the incident which took place in a house on Hart Drive, Measham, according to Leicestershire Live.

One neighbour said: “What a horrible thing to happen, right next to our house.

“Thoughts and love to the man’s family and hope the police find out what happened. Hart Drive residents keep safe.”

“Measham is a proper community, it’s a cliche to say it but you never expect to hear things like this happening where you live.”
