Mom star Mary Pat Gleason dead at 70 after cancer battle

MOM and A Cinderella Story actress Mary Pat Gleason died on Tuesday night at the age of 70.

She passed away after a battle with cancer, with her friend and Watchmen actor Ron Fassler revealing the sad news on social media on Wednesday.

Mary had 40 years of acting experience under her belt, and close to 200 film and TV credits, but her most recent role was as Mary on CBS’ Mom, opposite Anna Faris and Allison Janney.

Her last episode of the series aired late last year when her character died suddenly.

Mary Pat’s manager confirmed the news of her passing to Variety, telling the outlet “she was a fighter to the end.”

Ron wrote of the late character actress: "Mary Pat Gleason, one of the dearest and sweetest people I have ever had the pleasure to know, passed away last night at age seventy.

“She has 174 credits on her IMDB page (with one unreleased film still to come), but she was so much more than a wonderful actress: she was one of a kind.

He continued: “So caring, so funny, and so delicious to be around, that I find it hard to imagine a world without her shining presence and smiling face.

“My heart goes out to all who knew and loved her (all one million of you). Let's all raise a glass to her this evening as one and offer a final toast and a fond farewell in her memory.”

Since 1980, the Minnesota native has guest starred on countless popular television series, including Dallas, Guiding Light, Full House, Quantum Leap, Saved by the Bell, Friends, Step by Step, ER, Sex and the City, Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy and Hot to Get Away with Murder.

Aside from her stint on Mom, Mary also held recurring roles on shows like Will & Grace, Instant Mom, 1600 Penn and Desperate Housewives, as well as a starring role on The Middleman.
