Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's claim that he still keeps in touch with Erling Haaland has been questioned as associates of his agent Mino Raiola suggest there was an 'irreconcilable fallout' between the pair.

The Dortmund striker is a man in demand this summer with several clubs tracking the superstar, but his £150million price tag is keeping suitors at bay, for now.

Chelsea appeared to be the only team entertaining that fee, but even Thomas Tuchel's men aren't willing to pay that amount of money, especially given that his release clause - at almost half that number - can be triggered in a year's time.

That brings a whole host of clubs into the equation, however, as Haaland costing £70million seems like the bargain of the century as he is primed to take the 'best player in the world' crown off Lionel Messi and Ronaldo in the coming years.

Are Manchester United in pole position to sign Erling Haaland next summer? Comment below

And don't rule out Man United after their attempts to sign him from RB Leipzig in 2019 and Solskjaer's prior relationship with Haaland at Molde.

However, there seems to be contradictory claims whether that will work in United's favour or not.

The Old Trafford boss claims they still keep in touch from their time at the Norwegian club, but it's also believed the Red Devils had a dispute with his entourage during their failed negotiations 18 months ago.

Manchester Evening News reports that United tried to cut Haaland's agent Raiola out of the deal which allegedly resulted in an 'irreconcilable fallout' according to Raiola's representatives.

Time will tell which claim is true as we wait to see Haaland's next move, but if United are not on bad terms with the talisman they have a great chance of landing him next summer.

Solskjaer at the very least has a professional relationship with Haaland and given that players typically enjoy playing under the Norwegian, it's likely they have a good understanding from their time at Molde.

United have recently signed Jadon Sancho - Haaland's former teammate and close friend - and it's possible a familiar face, especially one of Sancho's quality, could be the deciding factor in where the striker ends up.

The Red Devils' proposed signing of Raphael Varane also shows Man Utd's ambition going forward as Haaland will no doubt be looking to challenge for silverware during his next chapter.

A space in the side will open up at just the right time as well as Edinson Cavani's contract runs out at the end of the season.

All the pieces seem to be falling into place, but if the club's relationship with his reps led by Raiola is unrepairable, it could be all for nothing.
