Manchester United transfer news LIVE Ralf Rangnick updates plus Luke Shaw injury latest

Manchester United confirmed Ralf Rangnick's interim appointment until the end of the season on Monday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked last weekend and Rangnick has replaced the Norwegian at Old Trafford on a temporary basis.

“The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team," Rangnick said upon his appointment.

United will quickly turn their attention to their Thursday night clash with Arsenal, as Rangnick looks to improve upon the job done by Solskjaer and the two solid results — against Villarreal and Chelsea — overseen by Carrick.

It's hoped that Rangnick will take charge for that game, but it's possible that Carrick will still be on the touchline.

How Manchester United could line-up under Ralf Rangnick

Manchester United have confirmed the appointment German coach Ralf Rangnick as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's successor as manager on an interim basis.

United, who made the decision to sack Solskjaer last week following their the 4-1 defeat to Watford on Saturday afternoon, made the decision to search for an interim boss to take the team through until the end of the season, before appointing their next permanent manager next summer.

Michael Carrick oversaw two games as caretaker boss. And despite interest in PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino as their next permanent long-term boss, the French club rejected an approach to appoint him straight away and United turned to Rangnick.

United will pay out his contract with Russian giants Lokomotiv Moscow and he could be in the dugout against Arsenal on Thursday night, subject to his work visa being sorted.

United confirmed the appointment of Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season before he undertakes a two-year consultancy role.

Club sources have indicated Rangnick could be joined by a handful of staff members but United are not expecting any more imminent outgoings from the coaching department.

Lars Kornetka was described by Rangnick as ' the best video analyst we have in Germany' and joined the German at Lokomotiv Moscow earlier this year. Christian Mockel was appointed as Lokomotiv's head of scouting by Rangnick.
