Manchester United announced Edinson Cavani's new one-year deal yesterday afternoon as the club's preparation for next season got underway.

The Uruguayan striker has been in fine form since joining as a free agent in October, scoring 15 times in 35 appearances for the Red Devils.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping to add to this piece of transfer business by recruiting more players in the upcoming window.

Determining where United need to strengthen most is up for debate, though many believe a new winger and goalkeeper should be prioritised as the Red Devils look to mount a title challenge next season.

Here, we have taken a look at the latest United rumours...

United are closing in on a deal to re-sign former keeper Tom Heaton on a free transfer from Aston Villa.

Sergio Romero is set to leave Old Trafford this summer while David De Gea's future remains uncertain, prompting Solskjsaer to act in the transfer market.

Heaton is out of contract at the end of the season and it's expected he will make his return to Old Trafford, according to the Telegraph.

Red Devils suffer Grealish blow

The agent of Jack Grealish, Jonathon Barnett, believes that United are no longer in pole position to sign the Aston Villa midfielder.

Grealish was rumoured to be on his way out of Villa Park last year and attracted interest from a number of top clubs.

The 25-year-old penned a new deal at Villa in September, though there is still talk that a deal could be completed.

Even if a move does goes through, Barnett does not expect United to be at the front of the queue.

"The truth is we don't know [what will happen this season]," Barnett told SNTV.

“There are many clubs [interested] and I wouldn't put Manchester United at the top of that [list].

“But he could stay. He could stay as well so it's a conversation the club, Aston Villa, will have with Jack and ourselves then we'll see where we go.

“At the moment he is a Villa player and he has no thoughts about anything else. He could be a big star in the summer, he maybe should have been playing a little bit earlier for England."

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged the club to go out and sign PSG centre-back Marquinhos.

Solskjaer is expected to be in the market for a new central defender to partner Harry Maguire and Ferdinand believes the club should target the 26-year-old Brazilian.

Marquinhos helped PSG to the semi-final of this season's Champions League and is at the top of his game.

"If any team is in the market for a centre-back, right now, out of the top teams, with the finances, Marquinhos is the only place I’m going,’ Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five YouTube show.

"Big-game player. Every big game you see that guy play he turns up.

"If I’m looking for a centre-back of experience who can take me to the next level, he’s the one I’m going for."
