Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez is firmly on the radar of Manchester United ahead of a possible £135million summer transfer.
Daily Star Sport report that the Spain midfielder is being seen as the perfect replacement for Paul Pogba by United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, with any move seeing the 25-year-old replace Pogba as the club's most expensive player ever.
United scouts were in attendance at Anfield to watch Saul in Atletico's Champions League victory over Liverpool shortly before the suspension of football during the coronavirus pandemic.
They delivered a glowing report to Solskjaer about Saul's qualities, but in truth the midfielder has been one one of United's targets for a lot longer than that, and the Red Devils are ready to make a big move to attract him to the Premier League in the summer.
The club see him as a perfect partner for January addition Bruno Fernandes in midfield as United look to kick on in Solskjaer's second year in permanent charge.
Saul is seen as one of the best of the next wave of Spanish talents following their successes in the late 2000s and early 2010s, and he has scored three times in his 19 senior international appearances.
Pogba is still expected to leave the club in the summer, with both Real Madrid and Juventus still keen on a move for the Frenchman.
Any departure could largely fund the move for Saul, who could become one of United's highest-paid players,
Solskjaer is also keen to wrap up a £30million move for Birmingham City's talented teenager Jude Bellingham, who could be signed in the summer and then loaned elsewhere for the 2020/21 season.
