A man has been left in a serious condition after being knocked down in a hit and run last night.

The victim, in his 20s, was riding a scooter along Picton Road, Wavertree, when he was hit by a car.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 10.20pm, on Wednesday, October 20.

The man was taken to hospital with head injuries and is currently described as being in a serious but stable condition.

Merseyside police are now appealing for information and witnesses following the hit and run.

The car involved which made off from the scene of the crash is described as a white VW SUV.

Detectives are conducting enquiries including checking CCTV and speaking to witnesses.

Sergeant Steve Smith from the serious collision investigation unit said: "We’re keen to speak to establish the details and speak with the driver of this vehicle as a matter of urgency.

"If you witnessed this collision, or were passing and may have captured anything to confirm the vehicle involved, come forward and we will take action. I am particularly keen to speak with a pedal cyclist who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision.
