A man has died after being assaulted in Crawley at the Skyfall apartments in Three Bridges last night.

It comes after reports of a stabbing in the area.

In a statement police said: “Sadly, a man has died after sustaining critical injuries in an assault in Russell Way, Crawley, on Tuesday evening. We are searching for a suspect known to the victim, but are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”

Emergency services including police and ambulances were seen at the Skyfall apartments at around 11pm BST.

After emergency services discovered the dead body police forensic teams attended the scene.

Social media reports also claimed helicopters were circling overhead above Downland Drive and Brighton Road.

A social media user told of a stabbing on Twitter last night, writing:  "Reports of a stabbing in three bridges, Crawley by the Paymaster roundabout."

Three Bridges has seen 238 incidents of violent crime as of August 2020 this year, according to UK Crime Stats.

Crawley Borough Council has renewed an order tackling anti-social behaviour which prohibits alcohol related nuisance and anti-social behaviour in the town, the Express reports.

Councillor Brenda Smith said: “The current PSPO has been valuable in enabling the police and our Community Wardens to apply fines when appropriate. 

“It makes sense to continue implementing this PSPO to ensure Crawley is a safe place for our residents and visitors to enjoy.”

The incident comes after a man in his 50’s was attacked in Crawley in August

Two men were involved in an altercation on Berrymeade Walk on August 20, where the victim was stabbed.

A Crawley police spokesman said: “The victim, a man in his 50s, suffered multiple serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

“The victim and suspect are known to each other and police are not looking for anyone else in connection to the assault.”
