Young Manchester City attacker Ben Knight has admitted that he enjoyed the experience of playing as a central striker during Saturday evening's 4-0 win over Barnsley at the Academy Stadium.

After beating Preston North End 2-0 in midweek, Pep Guardiola's side stepped up their pre-season preparations with a comfortable victory over another Championship outfit, getting the job done thanks to goals from Samuel Edozie, Riyad Mahrez, Nathan Ake and Knight.

City were three goals to the good by half-time, making light work of Markus Schopp's side despite still not being at full strength, as Guardiola once again named a starting line-up consisting of experience and youth.

Amongst the youngsters earning a chance to impress was Knight and he most certainly made the most of his opportunity, netting City's second goal on the half-hour mark.

Reflecting on his performance after playing up front, Knight, who usually tends to operate out wide or as an attacking-midfielder, said: "It was something different. I haven't played as a No.9 loads; I am more of a midfielder or a winger.

"But if Pep is asking me to play there I am not going to say no.

"It was something different and I felt I had been doing quite well. I scored tonight so it was positive."

Knight, who played 61 minutes of the contest, believes his game is developing by being asked to operate as a striker, but has admitted that confidence has been a key factor.

He continued: "I think it is just confidence. I think when you play with these players who are so good, they just bring the best out of you, so you know where to be at what time.

"For me, I think it is just confidence."

Reviewing City's performance overall, Knight added: "It was good, I thought we all played really well. It was always going to be tough playing against a physical team.

"We got a couple of early goals and then just played our game, it was good."
