A main road in Manchester city centre has been closed in what is believed to be a road traffic collision.

Peter Street, in the Deansgate area of the city, has been closed in both directions due to an "emergency service-led incident", according to a statement on Transport for Greater Manchester's official Twitter account.

The statement added: "Free Bus 2 services are diverting via Whitworth St until further notice."

An update from traffic monitoring service Inrix read: "A34 Peter Street in both directions closed due to accident from A56 Deansgate to A5103 Mount Street."

No other information surrounding the incident or the number of people or vehicles have been disclosed.
