Emergency services have rushed to the M62 after a crash.

North West Motorway Police said two lanes of traffic are currently closed due to a crash on the M62 just before junction 8.

Travel monitor Inrix reports: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident, an overturned vehicle involved on M62 in both directions from J8 A5281 Burtonwood Road (Warrington West / Burtonwood) to J7 A57 Warrington Road (Rainhill Stoops).

"Traffic has been held in both directions since around 3.30pm to allow an air ambulance to land, following an accident on the westbound carriageway."

North West Motorway police said the closure is expected to affect match-day traffic this evening.

Match traffic disruption

Those travelling into Liverpool tonight may need to seek an alternative route following a crash on the m62 which has currently closed all lanes.

Delays expected for a few hours.

Liverpool vs Shrewsbury kicks off is at 7.45pm so those travelling into the city may want to give themselves extra time.
