Loose Women 's Nadia Sawalha, Jane Moore, and Kaye Adams were overcome with emotion on Friday's show when Carol McGiffin made a shock return from France to greet them in the studio.

The stars were initially stunned in silence as Carol burst into the studio after convincing her colleagues she was still in France and spent the first part of the show on a video call.

Jane then revealed she had tears in her eyes as the ladies greeted Carol and wondered how on earth she had managed to keep them in the dark about her surprise appearance.

But due to social distancing measures, they were not allowed to give Carol a hug despite not having seen her in almost a year.

Carol said they did not look very pleased to see her as the ladies registered their shock

Marching into the studio from the wings, Carol shouted: "I'm back!"

"No!" screamed Nadia, covering her mouth with her hands.

"I'm back! You don't look very pleased to see me!" laughed Carol.

Carol had kept up a facade of being abroad but she had returned to the UK for reasons she would not disclose
Nadia was shocked as she thought Carol was still in France where she lives

"Oh my god Carol, I just want to give you a hug! We can't hug you can we? " asked Nadia.

"I'm actually tearful, I'm actually, oh my god what is going on!? How, what? Where were you doing that in part one?" asked Jane.

Carol explained: "I have been back for more than two weeks now, I have done my quarantine, like a good girl, I didn't break any rules."

The panelists burst into tears as Carol surprised them after being away for a year

Jane asked: "So all the time I've been WhatsApping you, you've been right here?"

"Yes, sorry! I lied, I am really sorry I hate lying to people," replied Carol.

Nadia gushed: "It was worth it for the surprise."

Jane Moore was speechless as she had no idea Carol was back in the UK

Carol went on: "I am here for personal reasons, private reasons, family reasons which I really can't go into, but they were important and justified.

"And also for my own sanity seriously, I was getting very down."

Nadia told Carol that she had been so worried about Carol's mental health that she had been considering intervening and quarantining so she could visit her abroad.
